Vinchesi Family

Since your surname is so uncommon, it is possible to determine the
general area where it originated. There are only 35 telephone
listings in Italy today for Vinchesi and 12 of them are in Carrara.
Most of the others are found nearby in Massa, Fossla, Aulla, Avenza,
Castelnuovo Magra, San Terenzo, Sarzana and Pugliola.

The only Vinchesi who came through Ellis Island at a time when the
place of origin was listed was from Carrara. He was listed as
Emanuele Vinchesi, age 46, arriving 22 July 1905, and although it is
hard to read the original manifest, it may be that he was joining his
nephew Enrico Vinchesi on 113th Street in New York.

When Enrico came through Ellis Island in 1892 he was listed as a
stone cutter which might tend to suggest an origin in or near Carrara.

So you should probably be looking specifically in Carrara, but
certainly in the general area from La Spezia toward the east and the
south east to Carrara.
